About
White Rock Horse Camp is a first-come, first-served primitive horse camp situated within Davy Crockett National Forest near Kennard, Texas. The campground serves equestrians accessing the Piney Creek Horse Trail, a 53-mile network of trails meandering through the East Texas pineywoods along forest service roads, tram roads, pipeline right-of-ways, and game trails. Facilities are minimal, consisting of vault toilets, potable water access, and trash receptacles. The trails are primitive and some sections may flood during wet weather. A daily $10 fee per vehicle covers both camping and trail access, with annual permits available for $50 (January through December). Permits can be purchased on-site via the Recreation.gov mobile app by scanning QR codes at the trailhead. Groups exceeding 75 persons require a Special-Use Permit obtained through the District Office at least three months in advance. The Piney Creek Horse Trail system connects to a second equestrian staging area, Piney Creek Horse Camp, accessible from the Kennard area.
