About

Stubblefield Lake Recreation Area is a historic campground built in 1937 by the Civilian Conservation Corps as part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal programs. Located on the north shore of Lake Conroe in Sam Houston National Forest, it offers a forested retreat just an hour north of Houston. The campground features 28 camping units available on a first-come, first-served basis only. Facilities include flush toilets, hot showers, and picnic tables with barbecue grills and lantern posts at each site. On-site payment may be available via the Recreation.gov mobile app's Scan and Pay feature. Recreation opportunities include lake and pond fishing, non-motorized boating such as canoeing, day hiking, birding, and seasonal hunting. The campground also provides access to the Lone Star Hiking Trail, the longest continuous footpath in Texas.
