Mission Tejas State Park

Open — Open year-round. The park reopened in November 2025 following a major three-year renovation that upgraded camping facilities with wider roads and larger, level concrete pads.

About

Mission Tejas State Park encompasses 660 acres of East Texas Pineywoods at the north end of the Davy Crockett National Forest, midway between Dallas and Houston. Recently reopened in November 2025 after a three-year renovation, the park offers upgraded camping facilities with wider roads and larger, level concrete pads designed for modern RVs and trailers. The campground includes 12 standard sites with electricity and water, 3 tent-only sites with electricity and water, and 2 primitive sites with water only. All sites feature picnic tables and grills or fire rings, with restrooms and showers nearby. The camping area sits beneath tall pines, providing shade and a serene atmosphere. Beyond camping, the park preserves important Texas history. Visitors can explore the commemorative Mission San Francisco de los Tejas, walk through the Rice Family Log Home built by pioneers in the early 1800s, and hike past remnants of El Camino Real, the historic Spanish road from the 1690s. The park's 8.5 miles of trails, including the moderate Nabedache Loop, wind through the forest with dogwood blooms in late March and fall colors later in the year. Fishing is available without a license in the pond near the picnic area and along San Pedro Creek.
