About
Huntsville State Park is a heavily wooded retreat in the Sam Houston National Forest region, centered around the 210-acre Lake Raven. The park's 2,083 acres of loblolly pine, sweetgum, and oak forest provide excellent shade for camping and abundant wildlife habitat. Three fishing piers, a boat ramp, and kayak rentals make the lake accessible for anglers and paddlers alike. The campground offers 160 sites across several areas: Raven Hill features 23 full-hookup pull-through sites ideal for larger RVs, Coloneh and Prairie Branch provide water/electric sites, and additional water-only sites serve those seeking a more primitive experience. All sites include picnic tables and fire rings, with restrooms and showers located nearby throughout the camping areas. Beyond camping, visitors can explore over 20 miles of multi-use trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. The park's nature center features exhibits on local ecology, and the Gator Junction camp store stocks supplies, ice cream, and souvenirs. The park's proximity to Houston makes it a popular weekend destination, so reservations are highly recommended.
