Nestled in the majestic East Texas Pineywoods within Sam Houston National Forest, Huntsville State Park offers a natural retreat just north of Houston. The park features 160 campsites distributed across three camping areas (Raven Hill, Coloneh, and Prairie Branch) along the shores of 210-acre Lake Raven. The heavily wooded landscape is dominated by loblolly and shortleaf pines typical of the East Texas Pine Belt. Camping options range from 23 full hookup sites with sewer, water, and electric (20/30/50-amp) to 77 water/electric sites and 54 water-only sites. All sites include picnic tables, fire rings, and lantern posts. Drive lengths vary from 15 to 80 feet, with maximum vehicle lengths from 20 to 60 feet. Some sites offer pull-through access, and accessible sites are available. A two-night minimum stay is required on Friday and Saturday nights. The park provides extensive recreation opportunities including 21 miles of hiking and biking trails, a designated swimming area (open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with no lifeguards), fishing for crappie, perch, catfish, and bass, and self-service kayak rentals. Amenities include a boat ramp, fishing piers, fish cleaning stations, restrooms with showers, a nature center with exhibits, playgrounds, a bird blind, and Gator Junction camp store. Motor boats are permitted at idle speed only. The park connects to the 129-mile Lone Star Hiking Trail. Note that alligators live in the park.

From I-45, take Exit 109. If traveling south, turn left on the frontage road, then right on Park Road 40. If traveling north, turn left on Park Road 40. The park entrance is on Park Road 40.
