About

Cagle Recreation Area sits along the forested shoreline of 22,000-acre Lake Conroe within Sam Houston National Forest. The campground features two loops with 47 full-service RV sites nestled among tall pines and hardwoods. Each site includes water, electric, and sewer hookups, a tent pad, lantern post, fire ring, and picnic table. Both loops have modern restrooms with flush toilets, sinks, and hot showers. Lake Conroe draws anglers year-round, particularly for black bass fishing. A developed boat ramp with large parking area provides easy lake access. Swimming is not permitted, but shoreline wading and fishing are popular activities. The 2-mile Cagle Trail within the facility accommodates hikers and mountain bikers. The surrounding Sam Houston National Forest offers 85 miles of OHV, equestrian, and mountain bike trails, plus access to the 128-mile Lone Star Hiking Trail. Mid-February through early March brings spectacular displays of redbud and dogwood blossoms. Lake Conroe also provides wintering habitat for bald eagles.
