About
Cagle Recreation Area is a popular developed campground situated on the west fork of the San Jacinto River along Lake Conroe in Sam Houston National Forest. Located just one hour north of Houston near New Waverly, this facility offers year-round camping, fishing, hiking, and water sports in a scenic pine forest setting. The campground features 47 full-service RV sites arranged in two camping loops, with some sites offering lake views. All sites include water, electric, and sewer hookups, along with a tent pad, lantern post, and fire ring. Lake Conroe is a 22,000-acre reservoir particularly noted for black bass fishing, with forested shorelines and open water attracting anglers year-round. The recreation area includes a developed boat ramp for easy lake access. Hikers and mountain bikers can explore the 2-mile Cagle Trail within the facility, and the area provides convenient access to the 128-mile Lone Star Hiking Trail. Swimming is not permitted, but fishing, picnicking, and shoreline wading provide activities for families. The surrounding forest provides winter habitat for bald eagles, and in spring, redbud and dogwood blossoms create spectacular floral displays.
