White Rock Mountain Recreation Area is a scenic mountaintop destination in the Boston Mountains of Arkansas, managed within the Ozark-St. Francis National Forests. The mountain received its name from the white appearance of lichen-covered bluffs visible from a distance. At 2,309 feet elevation, the campground provides sweeping views and access to some of the region's best hiking, including an easy 2-mile rim trail around the mountaintop, the 17-mile Shores Lake/White Rock loop, and the renowned 170-mile Ozark Highlands Trail. The campground features 8 primitive family campsites and 1 group site, each equipped with tent pads, fire rings, BBQ grills, picnic tables, and lantern poles. Vault toilets with drinking water spigots are available on each side of the campground. There are no hookups, showers, or dump station facilities. Small RVs and pop-up campers can be accommodated at select sites, but this is primarily a tent camping destination. An on-site general store sells firewood, ice, groceries, and souvenirs. Three historic stone cabins built by the Civilian Conservation Corps and a 30-person lodge are available for rental through Recreation.gov. Hosts are on site around the clock. FSR 1003 has ongoing road closures due to landslides, but the recreation area remains accessible via alternate routes from Boles Gap Road or Hurricane Road.

Directions

From I-40 at Mulberry, AR (Exit 24): Take AR 215 north approximately 12-15 miles, then follow Forest Service Road 1505 for about 8 miles to the recreation area. Due to FSR 1003 closures, access from Boles Gap Road (FSR 1505-2) from the north or Hurricane Road from the west may be required.
