About

Aux Arc Campground occupies a scenic stretch of shoreline along Ozark Lake in the Arkansas River Valley. The name derives from French explorers' term "Aux Arc," meaning "the big bend," which eventually became "Ozark." The campground is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and provides well-maintained, spacious sites that follow the water's edge like a paved country road. The facility includes 84 sites with electric (up to 50-amp) and water hookups, 4 non-electric sites, and 3 reservable group picnic shelters with electricity. Sites are paved, shaded, and equipped with fire rings and covered picnic tables. Amenities include flush toilets, hot showers, a dump station, two playgrounds, and a boat ramp for lake access. Ozark Lake extends 36 miles along the Arkansas River, offering excellent fishing for catfish, bream, crappie, and bass. The surrounding public land supports hunting for deer, turkey, quail, and waterfowl in season. The nearby town of Altus hosts two of Arkansas's largest wineries, with vineyards reminiscent of the European Rhineland.
