About

Aux Arc Campground sits on the shores of Ozark Lake in the picturesque Arkansas River Valley. The name originated with French explorers who mapped the territory, with "Aux Arc" meaning "the big bend," describing the bend in the Arkansas River. Over time, this name was simplified to "Ozark," giving the lake its current name. This U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campground offers 88 spacious, shady campsites, most with electric and water hookups, including some with 50-amp service. The facility includes hot showers, flush toilets, a dump station, two playgrounds, and a boat ramp. Three picnic shelters with electricity are also available for reservation. Ozark Lake extends 36 miles along the Arkansas River, with shoreline varying from steep bluffs and tree-lined banks to open farmlands. Boating, hiking, and picnicking are popular activities. Anglers find success with both boat and bank fishing for catfish, bream, crappie, and bass. Public lands surrounding the lake provide opportunities for hunting deer, quail, squirrels, rabbits, dove, wild turkey, ducks, and geese during appropriate seasons. The nearby town of Altus is home to two of Arkansas's largest wineries, featuring vineyards reminiscent of the European Rhineland.
