About
Shores Lake Recreation Area sits in the Boston Mountain Ranger District of Ozark National Forest, offering 18 campsites around an 82-acre lake completed in 1958. Construction of the dam began in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps. The campground features fully accessible facilities including flush toilets with ramps, accessible fishing piers with underwater structures, and an accessible pavilion available by reservation.
The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis only, with no advance reservations. Some sites offer electric hookups with 110V outlets and 30-amp access, though no water or sewer hookups are available. Camping trailers are allowed, but there is no dump station. Due to the remote location, water and electricity may be temporarily unavailable during inclement weather or emergency situations. A campground host is present during the operating season.
Recreational opportunities include fishing, swimming from the beach (open Memorial Day to Labor Day), and hiking. The Shores Lake Loop Trail showcases upland hardwoods and shortleaf pine groves with views of waterfalls and wildlife. At the back of the campground, a parking lot provides access to the Shores Lake Loop Trail, which connects to White Rock Recreation Area, rim trails, and the Ozark Highlands Trail. The lake and surrounding forest offer excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing in a scenic Ozark mountain setting.
