About

Shores Lake Recreation Area is situated around an 82-acre lake in the Boston Mountain Ranger District of the Ozark-St. Francis National Forest. The dam construction began in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps and was completed in 1958 through a cooperative effort between the USDA Forest Service and Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. The campground offers 18 sites, with 7 featuring electric hookups (110V and 30-amp outlets) and 11 standard non-electric sites. The recreation area features fully accessible facilities including a bathroom with ramps and fishing piers designed for wheelchair use. Drinking water is available from a hand pump from March through November, though due to the remote location, water and electricity may be temporarily unavailable during inclement weather. The swimming beach operates from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The Shores Lake Loop Trail showcases upland hardwoods and shortleaf pine groves with views of waterfalls and wildlife. A parking lot at the back of the campground provides access to trails connecting to White Rock Recreation Area, the rim trail, and the Ozark Highland Trail. A group pavilion is also available by reservation.
