About

White Rock Lake sits in a remote corner of the Tahoe National Forest, managed by PG&E as a dispersed camping area. The campground provides 6 primitive sites, each equipped with a fire ring and picnic table. True to its primitive nature, there are no restrooms, no potable water, no fees, and no reservations. Campers must be fully self-sufficient, bringing all water supplies and packing out all trash. Access to White Rock Lake requires a high-clearance 4WD vehicle for the final stretch of rough forest road. From Highway 80, take Highway 89 north to Little Truckee Summit, then turn left on Road 07 toward Independence Lake and Jackson Meadow. After 9.5 miles, turn left on Forest Service Road 86 and continue 6.7 miles to a Y intersection. Take the left fork and continue 5 more miles to reach the lake. The lake draws anglers seeking rainbow trout (2,000-4,000 fingerlings are stocked annually) and hikers using the Mt. Lola Trail. The surrounding area offers excellent backcountry exploration for those prepared for remote conditions.

Directions

From Highway 80, exit onto Highway 89 north. At Little Truckee Summit, turn left on Road 07 toward Independence Lake and Jackson Meadow. Continue 9.5 miles, then turn left on Forest Service Road 86.
