About

Cold Creek Campground is located on Highway 89, 4.5 miles south of Sierraville, California in Tahoe National Forest. The small campground offers 13 sites: 10 standard nonelectric and 3 walk-to sites that share a parking area. Each site has a picnic table and campfire ring. Vault toilets are provided but there is no potable water on site; campers must bring their own or fill up at nearby Cottonwood Creek Campground. The campground lies in a meadow setting with diverse tree cover. Half the sites are shaded by Jeffrey pine and white fir, while the remaining half sit closer to the creek among cottonwoods, willows, and aspens. Cold Creek offers rainbow trout fishing and swimming. Nearby Cottonwood Creek Campground provides access to the Cottonwood Creek Botanical Trail and Overlook Trail. Lake Tahoe is only 35 minutes away with excellent boating, kayaking, fishing, and hiking. Sardine Lakes and the Lakes Basin are a 35-minute drive northwest via Highway 49, while Stampede Reservoir is 45 minutes southeast. Bears frequent the area, so all food must be kept in approved containers or hidden in a vehicle trunk. Fire restrictions may be imposed during hot, dry weather.
