About
Meadow Knolls Group Campground is a high-elevation destination located on the shores of Meadow Lake at 7,500 feet in Tahoe National Forest. The campground features two reservable group sites, each designed to accommodate up to 25 people, making it ideal for organized group outings, family reunions, or club trips. The area is particularly popular with off-highway vehicle enthusiasts, as it provides access to nearby OHV trails including the Fordyce Jeep Trail. The lake offers opportunities for boating and swimming, with an informal boat launch available on site. The remote setting and rough access road contribute to a rugged, backcountry camping experience. The campground is operated by Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) and requires advance reservations. Campers should be prepared for primitive conditions: there is no potable water on site, no hookups, and no showers. Vault toilets are provided. High-clearance vehicles are strongly recommended, as the final miles of access road are unpaved and rough.
Directions
From Truckee, travel north on Highway 89 for 17 miles to Forest Service Road 07. Turn left and travel west to the Meadow Lake turnoff. Turn left on Forest Service Road 86, which becomes Nevada County Road 843, traveling south for approximately 10 miles. Most of the route is paved, but the last few miles are unpaved and very rough. High-clearance vehicles recommended.
