About
Whisky Camp Guard Station offers a unique opportunity to experience the life of a U.S. Forest Service fire guard before modern roads and aerial fire detection. This compact, red-planked, cedar-roofed two-room cabin sits at 3,800 feet in the Tiller Ranger District, tucked beneath a dense forest canopy that lets occasional shafts of sunlight break through. The cabin is equipped with two single beds and two roll-out single beds with foam mattresses. Propane powers the wall heater, lights, cook stove with oven, and refrigerator. Outside, you'll find picnic tables, a campfire ring, outdoor grill, tent camping area, and a vault toilet. There is no water on site; potable water is available at Tiller Ranger Station, approximately 45 minutes away. The Bunchgrass, Elkhorn, and Beaver Creek trails depart directly from Whisky Camp for hiking, horseback riding, or mountain biking. Wildlife in the area includes elk, deer, black bear, and cougar. Crater Lake National Park and the Rogue-Umpqua National Scenic Byway are within driving distance.
