Open year-round on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations. In winter, the campground remains open but may be inaccessible due to weather and road conditions. No potable water; bring your own. Pack out all trash.

Alcohol Prohibitions

This Order describes acts that are prohibited upon lands, roads and trails within the National Forest System administered by the Forest Service Pacific Northwest Region in regards to alcoholic beverages.

About

Black Canyon Camping Area is a small, primitive campground tucked into a tall stand of fir trees along Jackson Creek in the Umpqua National Forest. The campground offers three sites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. Nearby swimming access on Jackson Creek provides a refreshing option during warmer months. This is a pack-it-in, pack-it-out campground with no services. No potable water is available, so campers must bring their own supply. A vault toilet is provided. The maximum vehicle length is 22 feet, making this campground best suited for tents, smaller trailers, and compact campers. A popular attraction nearby is the World's Tallest Sugar Pine Tree. The campground is free and operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations. Check-in is at 2:00 p.m. and checkout at noon. Quiet hours are 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., and the maximum stay is 14 days. In winter, the campground remains open but may be inaccessible due to weather and road conditions.

Directions

From Canyonville (I-5 exit 98), take a left onto NW 1st Street. At the stop sign, turn right onto Main St. In two blocks, turn left onto SE 3rd St/OR-227 (Tiller Trail Hwy). Follow OR-227 approximately 23 miles to Tiller. Before crossing the bridge, turn left onto Douglas County Road #46 (South Umpqua Road / FS Road #28). Drive approximately 5 miles to the 29 Road and turn right. Follow the 29 Road approximately 15 miles up Jackson Creek. The campground is signed.
