About
Black Canyon Campground is a small, primitive camping area located along Jackson Creek in the Tiller Ranger District of Umpqua National Forest. The campground features only three campsites set within a tall stand of fir trees, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. This free campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservation system. The location offers nearby swimming access in Jackson Creek and serves as a base for exploring the area's natural attractions, including the World's Tallest Sugar Pine Tree. The campground has minimal facilities, with only a vault toilet available and no drinking water on-site. Visitors should come prepared and practice Leave No Trace principles by packing out all garbage. The campground is accessed via Forest Service Road 29 along Jackson Creek, approximately 15 miles from the junction with South Umpqua Road (FS Road 28), about 5 miles west of Tiller. The remote location provides a peaceful camping experience for those seeking solitude in the forest.
