About
Whiskey Creek Group Picnic Area is located on the northern shore of Whiskeytown Lake within Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, 13 miles west of Redding. This day-use only facility is designed for group gatherings including birthdays, family reunions, work events, and other special occasions. The picnic area features a protected cove that's popular for swimming during the summer heat, and visitors can launch boats at the nearby Whiskey Creek Launch Ramp (1.6 miles away) and moor them along the shore of the picnic area. Kayaking, paddle boarding, and fishing are popular activities in the Whiskey Creek arm of the lake. The area is situated where the Klamath Mountains, Cascade and Coast Mountain Ranges, and Sacramento Valley meet, creating diverse landscapes and wildlife. Reservations are required to use this group facility, with hours of 9 am to 9 pm for reservation holders. Alcohol, smoking, and pets are prohibited at this location. The National Recreation Area requires an entrance fee in addition to any reservation fees.
Directions
From Redding, take State Route 299 west for approximately 11 miles. Turn onto Whiskey Creek Road and drive past the Whiskey Creek launch area. At the fork in the road, turn right and follow paved road approximately 1.6 miles until it ends at the group picnic area.
