About
Carr Powerhouse Picnic Shelter is a reservable day-use facility located on the northern shore of Whiskeytown Lake within Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. The site features a large covered pavilion with seven concrete round tables, two charcoal barbecue grills (each with three grilling sections), electrical outlets, cement cornhole boards (bags not provided), and an expansive lawn area with additional picnic tables and benches. This is a day-use area only with hours from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for reservation holders. A vehicle entrance pass is required for Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. Due to strong variable water currents generated by the Carr Powerhouse, no kayaking, wading, or swimming is permitted at this location. For water activities, visitors can head to Oak Bottom (2 miles east) or Whiskey Creek (4.5 miles east). Nearby hiking includes Boulder Creek Falls, Oak Bottom Water Ditch Trail, and trails accessed via Crystal Creek Road leading to Crystal Creek and Whiskeytown Falls.
