Peltier Bridge Primitive Campground

Open — Open year-round with reservations required through Recreation.gov. Limited to 14 days between April 1 and October 31, or 30 days per calendar year. Requires Whiskeytown National Recreation Area entrance pass.

About

Situated along Clear Creek in the southeast corner of Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, Peltier Bridge Primitive Campground provides a peaceful retreat under the shade of towering alders and canyon live oaks. Located 13.5 miles west of Redding, the campground features 9 tent-only sites, each equipped with a picnic table, large bear-resistant storage locker, metal fire pit with swing-arm barbecue grill, and lamp pole. The campground shares two ADA-accessible vault toilets, but drinking water and electricity are not available on-site. The campground's location along Clear Creek makes it particularly popular with fly fishermen, while its proximity to Whiskeytown Lake and the surrounding backcountry provides access to swimming, kayaking, hiking, and mountain biking. Sites 1, 2, and 3 require a short walk of 25-35 feet from the parking area. Due to the narrow gravel access road and limited parking, no vehicles towing trailers, fifth wheels, pop-up campers, or motorhomes are permitted. Whiskeytown National Recreation Area sits at the convergence of the Klamath Mountains, Cascade Range, Coast Mountains, and Sacramento Valley, creating diverse landscapes and wildlife viewing opportunities. The 3,200-acre lake offers year-round recreation, and Brandy Creek Beach is just three and a half miles away. Visitors should be aware that post-fire hazards from the 2018 Carr Fire, including potential falling trees and branches, remain in the area.

Directions
