About
Sheep Camp Primitive Campground offers a secluded tent camping experience in the heart of Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. Located 17 miles west of Redding, California, the four-site campground sits beneath a canopy of ponderosa pines and fir trees, providing welcome shade during hot summer months. The sites feature cliffside views overlooking Brandy Creek, with nearby trails leading to a series of waterfalls and into old-growth forest high on Shasta Bally Mountain. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table, large bear-resistant storage locker, metal fire pit with swing-arm barbecue grill, and a lamp pole. A single vault toilet serves all four sites. Campers must bring their own water as none is available on-site. Showers and a camp store can be found at Brandy Creek Beach, approximately 3.5 miles south. The 3,200-acre Whiskeytown Lake offers swimming, kayaking, sailing, paddle boarding, and water skiing during summer. Year-round activities include hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, gold panning, fishing, and picnicking. Black bears frequent the area, so all food and scented items must be stored in bear lockers or vehicles when not in immediate use.
