About
West Thompson Lake Campground is located along the wooded shoreline of its namesake 200-acre lake in northeastern Connecticut, operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The campground offers 24 sites in a quiet, shaded forest setting dominated by Eastern white pine, Northern red oak, and Shagbark hickory trees. Sites include 11 basic sites, 11 premium sites with water and electric hookups, and two lean-to shelters, accommodating RVs from small pop-ups to larger rigs depending on the site. The lake provides excellent warm-water fishing opportunities with a healthy population of bass and panfish. A boat ramp near the campground offers convenient water access for boaters, kayakers, and canoeists. The Thompson Section of the Quinebaug River Water Trail provides a leisurely three-hour paddle through extensive wildlife habitats with no rapids or portages, suitable for paddlers comfortable with moving water. On-site amenities include restrooms with showers, a dump station, playground, basketball court, and horseshoe pits. A free 18-hole disc golf course along the lakeshore is known for its challenging long drives and scenic views of the lake and dam. An overlook at the dam offers panoramic views ideal for sightseeing and photography. With over four miles of trails, group picnic shelters, and abundant autumn foliage displays, West Thompson Lake offers year-round natural beauty and outdoor recreation in northeastern Connecticut.
