West Thompson Lake Campground sits within a forest of Eastern white pine, Northern red oak, and Shagbark hickory along the shores of its namesake lake in northeastern Connecticut. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the campground provides a quiet retreat with excellent access to water-based recreation. West Thompson Lake supports a healthy population of warm-water fish including bass and panfish, and a boat ramp near the campground makes launching easy. The facility includes 11 standard electric sites with water hookups accommodating RVs up to 40 feet, 11 basic nonelectric sites for tents and smaller rigs, and two Adirondack lean-to shelters. All campers have access to accessible flush toilets, showers, and a dump station. The lake operates under a 5 mph speed limit, making it ideal for kayaking and canoeing. Beyond camping, visitors can explore the Quinebaug River Water Trail, a five-mile National Recreation Trail offering a leisurely paddle through extensive wildlife habitats. An 18-hole disc golf course on the lakeshore provides a challenging layout with scenic lake and dam views. Additional facilities include an amphitheater, playground, basketball court, and interpretive trails.

Directions

From I-395, take Exit 50. Follow CT Route 200 east to Thompson Center. Turn right onto CT Route 193 south and proceed 2 miles to the traffic light. Continue straight over the railroad tracks on Route 12. Take the first right onto Reardon Road. In 0.5 miles turn left onto West Thompson Lake Recreation Road and travel approximately 1,000 feet to the campground entrance on the right.
