About

Douglas State Forest is a 6,282-acre public forest in Worcester County, Massachusetts, bordering both Connecticut and Rhode Island. Rather than traditional overnight campsites, the forest offers two group pavilions available for day-use rental through the Massachusetts DCR reservation system. The historic CCC Pavilion accommodates up to 50 people, while the larger New Pavilion holds up to 100 guests. Both pavilions include picnic tables and charcoal grills with nearby accessible restrooms. The forest centers on Wallum Lake, where visitors can swim at the beach and launch boats from the ramp. Miles of woodland trails accommodate hiking, horseback riding, and winter activities like cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. One notable feature is an Atlantic White Cedar swampland accessible via a designated boardwalk trail. Pavilion rentals are $45 per day. Parking fees apply during peak season (Memorial Day through Labor Day): $9 for Massachusetts residents and $30 for non-residents. Walk-in registrations are not permitted; advance reservations are required through massdcrcamping.reserveamerica.com or by phone.
