About
Mashamoquet Brook State Park spans 900 acres in Pomfret, Connecticut, combining impressive geological features with rich Revolutionary War history. The park's most famous feature is the Wolf Den, where Israel Putnam crawled in 1742 to shoot a wolf that had been preying on local livestock. Near the den are the Table Rock and Indian Chair stone formations. The park entrance was once home to a cider mill, grist mill, and wagon shop, with the old grist mill now maintained as a museum by the Pomfret Historical Society. The campground contains 53 sites across two distinct loops. The Wolf Den loop offers 35 sites with modern amenities including flush toilets, showers, drinking water through Labor Day, paved site pads, and a dump station. The Mashamoquet Brook loop provides 18 wooded sites with a more primitive experience, featuring portable toilets and no running water or showers. All sites accommodate up to 6 people with 35-foot back-in driveways. The park's extensive trail system provides access to all areas and features, while Mashamoquet Brook lives up to its Native American name meaning "stream of good fishing."
