About

Quaddick Picnic Shelter sits within Quaddick State Park, a popular day-use recreation area centered around the 408-acre Quaddick Lake in northeastern Connecticut. The reservable shelter provides an ideal gathering spot for groups seeking outdoor recreation combined with picnicking facilities. The park's main draw is its refreshing reservoir waters and sandy beach, which attract swimmers, boaters, and sun lovers from across the tri-state area throughout summer. The park offers diverse outdoor activities including swimming at the sandy beach, boating with an unrestricted boat launch, fishing, and hiking a 1.5-mile circular trail. Restrooms and changing areas are available during the operating season. The site holds historical significance as the former location of Thompson's town farm, where elderly residents once lived, and before that served as a fishing area for the Nipmuck Indians. Quaddick State Park operates as a day-use facility with gates open from 8:00 a.m. until sunset. The park is free for in-state registered vehicles, with fees for out-of-state visitors. An alcohol ban is in place throughout the park. Gates are closed and restrooms unavailable from the day after Columbus Day until opening day of fishing season. While primarily a day-use park, one youth group camping site is available for qualified youth organizations by advance reservation.
