About

Located within the 4,000-acre George Washington Management Area and situated on the shores of Bowdish Reservoir, George Washington Memorial Camping Area is a 100-acre primitive overnight camping facility. The campground offers 45 well-spaced gravel sites suitable for tents, trailers, and RVs, though no electrical hookups are available. Water is provided through shared spigots throughout the campground, and restroom facilities consist of outhouses and pit toilets with no shower facilities. For a unique experience, the Angell Loop features seven hike-in tent platforms requiring a 0.6-mile hike from the parking area, with 12x12-foot platforms accommodating up to four people and two tents. Two Adirondack-style shelters are available for group camping up to 20 people each, and four cabins provide additional lodging options. The surrounding George Washington Management Area provides extensive recreational opportunities including swimming in Bowdish Reservoir, fishing, boating with a launch ramp, and miles of hiking trails ranging from moderate to difficult. The area is also popular for mountain biking, bird watching, and wildlife viewing. A dump station is available on-site for RV campers. Reservations are managed through ReserveAmerica and can be made up to 12 months in advance, with a maximum stay of 14 nights during peak summer season and 21 nights during off-peak periods.
