About
West Sullivan Campground is located at the north end of Sullivan Lake in Colville National Forest, about five miles east of Metaline Falls in northeast Washington. This small, intimate campground features 10 campsites situated in a mixed stand of conifer trees with a dense understory that provides privacy between sites. At 2,700 feet elevation, the campground sits on the shore of the 1,291-acre Sullivan Lake, which plunges to depths of 320 feet with Hall Mountain rising dramatically from the eastern shore to over 6,000 feet. The campground provides excellent access to water recreation including swimming at a designated beach area, fishing, boating, canoeing, and kayaking. Fishing is most successful from a boat, with burbot (ling cod) and Kokanee salmon being the primary species. Boat ramps are located at the north and south ends of the lake. Campers can walk directly from their sites to the Lakeshore Trail, a 4.2-mile National Scenic Trail along the eastern shore offering viewpoints and popular day hiking for all ages. The nearby Salmo-Priest Wilderness provides additional hiking opportunities with picturesque scenery. The campground includes a day use area with picnic spots and a reservable picnic shelter. A small airstrip adjacent to the campground allows fly-in camping for those with small aircraft. The area is home to diverse wildlife including grizzly and black bears, cougars, bald eagles, and the last remaining herd of woodland caribou in the United States. The Sullivan Lake Ranger District office is located directly across from the campground.
