About

Panhandle Campground sits in a heavily forested area along the east bank of the Pend Oreille River, about 30 miles north of Newport, Washington. The campground's 12 sites feature a thick middlestory of vegetation providing good privacy between campsites, with many within walking distance of the river. Facilities include vault toilets, potable water, picnic tables, and fire rings. A boat ramp and swimming area are located on-site. The Pend Oreille River offers excellent fishing for bass and trout (Washington fishing license required) as well as canoeing and power boating up to 35 mph. Small wetlands at the south end of the campground attract abundant birdlife. Bears and cougars are present in the area, so all food must be secured properly. Reservations are available through Recreation.gov up to 6 months in advance. The campground operates from mid-May through Labor Day weekend, with check-in at 2:00 p.m. and check-out at noon. Quiet hours are 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., and maximum stay is 14 days.
