About

Big Meadow Lake Campground occupies a forested mountain setting at 3,400 feet elevation surrounding a shallow 4.1-acre lake in the Colville National Forest. The campground provides 17 free campsites equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and tent pads, all within walking distance of the lake. The facility caters to tent campers and smaller RVs, though the back loop has limited seasonal access. The lake is stocked annually with rainbow trout and offers fishing from an ADA-accessible dock on the west end or from various shoreline locations. Internal combustion motors are prohibited, making this a quiet spot for canoes, kayaks, and other non-motorized watercraft. A primitive boat launch is available. Two-pole fishing is permitted, but lead weights or jigs measuring 1.5 inches or less are prohibited to protect breeding common loons. Approximately 4.4 miles of easy trails wind through the area. A paved interpretive trail leads to a relocated lookout tower offering views of the lake and Meadow Creek valley. Another trail visits the historic Hess Homestead Cabin, which is available for day use on a first-come-first-served basis. The Lakeshore Trail wraps around the lake, and the Meadow Creek Trail extends into the surrounding forest. The area is excellent for wildlife viewing, particularly waterfowl and common loons in summer.
