WEST END DISPERSED CAMPING
Open — Open year-round on a first-come, first-served basis. Standard 14-day stay limit applies. Winter access may be limited by snow conditions.
About
West End Dispersed Camping is located on the western edge of Island Park Reservoir in Caribou-Targhee National Forest, approximately 9.5 miles west of Harriman State Park via Green Canyon Road. This unmaintained dispersed camping area provides a primitive camping experience with direct access to the reservoir shoreline. The site offers opportunities for fishing, picnicking, and enjoying the natural beauty of eastern Idaho's high country. As a true dispersed camping area, West End has no developed facilities, services, or amenities. Campers must be completely self-sufficient, bringing their own water, supplies, and gear. There are no restrooms, potable water, trash collection, or designated campsites. Visitors should follow Leave No Trace principles and pack out everything they bring in. Campsites must be located at least 100 feet from water sources to protect water quality. The area is accessible year-round, though winter conditions may make access challenging. Standard Caribou-Targhee National Forest dispersed camping regulations apply: 14-day stay limit in one location within a 28-day period, after which campers must relocate at least 5 road miles away. The reservoir location offers fishing opportunities, and the surrounding forest provides a peaceful, primitive camping experience for those seeking solitude away from developed campgrounds.
