About
McCrea Bridge Campground is situated on the backwaters of beautiful Island Park Reservoir in Island Park, Idaho at an elevation of 6,200 feet within the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. The campground contains 19 single-family and 4 double-family sites, each equipped with a picnic table, campfire ring, and grill. Vault toilets, drinking water, and trash collection are provided, with firewood available for purchase from the on-site host. Island Park Reservoir offers excellent boating, water skiing, fishing, and canoeing opportunities, with a concrete boat ramp and docks located within the campground. The reservoir is used for irrigation, so water levels recede throughout summer and by August the reservoir cannot be accessed from McCrea Bridge. The Island Park area is renowned for fishing, with Henry's Fork considered one of the best fly-fishing streams in the nation for rainbow, cutthroat, and brook trout as well as Kokanee salmon. Nearby attractions include Mesa Falls Scenic Byway (12 miles south), Harriman State Park (14 miles south), Henry's Lake State Park (16 miles north), and Yellowstone National Park's west entrance (29 miles north in West Yellowstone, Montana). ATVs, OHVs, and horses are not permitted within the campground.
Directions
From West Yellowstone, Montana, take Highway 20 south for 27 miles. Turn west at Elk Creek Service Station and travel 2 miles to the campground entrance.
