About

Flat Rock Campground is nestled along the banks of the Henry's Fork of the Snake River within the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, about 22 miles south of West Yellowstone, Montana. Situated at 6,400 feet elevation in scenic Island Park, Idaho, the campground offers 37 single-family sites and one double-family site amid a mixed lodgepole pine forest that provides partial shade. Six sites feature 50-amp electric hookups for RVers seeking added convenience. The Henry's Fork meanders past the lower loop of the campground, drawing anglers from across the country for world-class fly-fishing opportunities targeting rainbow, brook, and cutthroat trout. The river's headwaters at Big Springs, one of the nation's largest springs located just 4.5 miles upstream, feed the Big Springs National Recreation Water Trail, a lazy three-hour float perfect for tubing, canoeing, and kayaking. Wildlife viewing is excellent, with frequent sightings of moose, bald eagles, and Sandhill cranes along the river corridor. Beyond fishing and floating, the Island Park area offers extensive recreational opportunities. The Mesa Falls Scenic Byway lies 11 miles south, featuring stunning overlooks of 110-foot Upper Mesa Falls and 85-foot Lower Mesa Falls. Harriman State Park, 13 miles south, provides over 20 miles of trails through prime wildlife habitat. Hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and ATVing are popular activities on the numerous trails crisscrossing the area, including access to the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail. Yellowstone National Park's west entrance is just 22 miles north, making Flat Rock an ideal base camp for day trips into the park.
