About

West Chicago Creek Campground is located along its namesake creek at the base of Mount Blue Sky in central Colorado's Arapaho National Forest. Situated at 9,600 feet elevation in an aspen and lodgepole pine forest, the campground provides easy access to hiking trails leading into the Mount Evans Wilderness. The creek offers quality fishing for rainbow, brown, and brook trout. The campground has 15 sites suitable for both tent and RV camping. Each site includes a tent pad, picnic table, charcoal grill, and fire ring. Parking spurs range from 30 to 45 feet. Vault toilets and a trash dumpster are available. The water well is currently non-functional, so campers must bring their own water. There are no hookups or dump station. Access is via Highway 103 from Idaho Springs, then Forest Service Road 188 (West Chicago Creek Road). The last mile is a one-lane dirt/gravel road with pullouts and two sharp switchbacks. Nearby Idaho Springs, a former mining town, offers additional attractions including the Argo Gold Mine and Mill Museum.

Directions

From I-70 westbound, take Idaho Springs exit #240 to Highway 103. Go south for 6.5 miles and turn right onto Forest Service Road 188 (West Chicago Creek Road). Continue 3 miles to the campground. The last mile is a one-lane dirt/gravel road with pullouts and two sharp switchbacks.
