About

West Boulder Campground occupies a scenic location at 5,538 feet elevation on the edge of a meadow near the mouth of the West Boulder River Canyon. The campground sits just steps from the river and adjacent to the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, surrounded by aspen and lodgepole pine forest with views of the snow-speckled Absaroka peaks. Wildlife in the area includes moose, mule deer, elk, and grizzly bear. The 10-site facility provides a basecamp for hikers and equestrians accessing trails leading west into the Absaroka Mountains, which connect to an extensive network of wilderness trails. Anglers can fish for Yellowstone cutthroat and rainbow trout in the West Boulder River. In winter, the landscape is ideal for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, though the access road may require high-clearance vehicles or winter travel on snowmobile, snowshoes, or skis. Each site includes a fire ring and picnic table, with vault toilets on site. Potable water from a hand pump is available Memorial Day through Labor Day only. This is a pack-in/pack-out campground with no trash service or firewood provided. The access road is not suitable for vehicles longer than 20 feet.
