About
East Boulder Campground offers a peaceful backcountry camping experience along the banks of the East Boulder River in Montana's Custer Gallatin National Forest. This small campground features just two sites, providing a secluded setting ideal for campers seeking solitude away from more developed recreation areas. The campground is free to use and operates entirely on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations. Facilities are intentionally primitive, consisting only of a vault toilet. There is no potable water, so campers must bring an adequate supply. Trash service is not provided, requiring visitors to pack out all waste. RVs and trailers are not permitted due to access constraints. Popular activities include day hiking in the surrounding forest and fishing in the East Boulder River. The campground is accessed by traveling 19 miles south of Big Timber on US 298, then 6 miles east on East Boulder Road (County Road 205). While officially open year-round, access may be limited during winter months depending on weather and road conditions.
