About

Wellfleet Hollow State Campground, formerly known as Paine's Campground, is a quiet and quaint campground managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation since 2019. Located in the Town of Wellfleet on Cape Cod, this campground offers an excellent opportunity for tent camping and exploring the natural beauty of lower Cape Cod. The location provides convenient access to ocean beaches, local nature trails, and the Cape Cod Rail Trail, making it ideal for campers who enjoy outdoor activities and day trips. The campground features a peaceful setting surrounded by natural beauty, with a crystal clear pond located just a half-mile hike from the camping area. Wellfleet Hollow is primarily designed for tent camping, with some sites offering electric hookups. The facility includes remodeled bathrooms with flush toilets and outdoor showers. In 2021, the Massachusetts Legislature established the Wellfleet Hollow State Campground Park Trust Fund to ensure long-term preservation and maintenance of the campground. Reservations can be made up to four months in advance through the Massachusetts DCR camping reservation system. The campground operates seasonally, typically from late spring through early fall. Massachusetts state law prohibits alcoholic beverages in all state parks and campgrounds, and campers are prohibited from transporting firewood into or out of the campground. Firewood is available for purchase on-site by credit card only.
