About
Lower Camp Creek Forest Camp offers a peaceful retreat in the Malheur National Forest, tucked among ponderosa pines along the banks of Camp Creek. This small campground provides a tranquil setting where visitors can relax to the sounds of running water, birds chirping, and squirrels chattering in the trees. The campground is particularly popular with hunters during late summer through early winter hunting seasons. The location provides easy access to several recreational opportunities. Less than a mile away, Arch Rock Trail #258 showcases fascinating geological features including an ash flow tuff formation with a scenic arch and several small rock shelters eroded into the outcrop. The beautiful Middle Fork of the John Day River is just a short drive away, and Magone Lake Campground, located 13 miles from the site, offers additional opportunities for swimming, fishing, and hiking. This is a basic forest camp with vault toilets and no potable water, so visitors must bring their own water supply. The campground operates on a pack-it-in, pack-it-out basis, requiring campers to take all trash with them. Sites are available for $6 per night with an additional $3 fee for extra vehicles. The Forest Service enforces a 14-day consecutive stay limit, with quiet hours from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
Directions
