The campground is currently closed. Management transitioned from USACE to Wax Marina for the 2026 season. Reservations are now through Campspot, not Recreation.gov.

Special Weather Statement issued June 11 at 3:31PM EDT by NWS Louisville KY

2:31 PM — 7:15 PM

The combination of temperatures in the upper 80s and low 90s and high humidity will result in peak afternoon heat index values in the 95 to 105 degree range. Those planning to be outdoors for extended periods of time should drink plenty of water, wear light clothing, and take frequent breaks.

From Recreation.gov

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District remains committed to providing high-quality recreation experiences to our visitors while also maintaining a recreation program that is efficient and sustainable. As part of this effort, USACE entered a partnership with a local business and transitioned the operations and management of the Wax Campground Recreation Area at Nolin River Lake to Wax Marina. This change is effective immediately. Any questions regarding fees, pass eligibility, or reservations procedures should be directed to the new managing entity—Wax Marina. They can be reached at 270-242-7205, or campground reservations can be made by visiting their website at: [**https://www.campspot.com/book/waxcampground**][1]. About

Wax Campground occupies a scenic stretch of shoreline on Nolin River Lake, a 5,795-acre reservoir created by Nolin Dam in the rolling forests of southern Kentucky. The campground features 110 sites spread across multiple loops, with most sites offering electric and water hookups. Select long-term sites include sewer connections. Three bathhouse facilities provide flush restrooms and showers with 24/7 access, and a dump station is located near the entrance. Nolin Lake is renowned for its distinctive blue-green water and ranks among Kentucky's top fishing destinations for catfish, bass, crappie, and walleye. Guests receive free boat launch access, and Wax Marina adjacent to the campground offers pontoon and jon boat rentals, boat slips, groceries, bait, and fuel. The lake connects to waterways that flow through Mammoth Cave National Park, offering extended paddling opportunities. For 2026, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers transitioned campground operations to Wax Marina under a public-private partnership. Reservations are now handled through Campspot rather than Recreation.gov, and questions about fees, passes, or booking should be directed to Wax Marina.
