Nolin Lake State Park

Closed — Closed indefinitely due to extensive flood damage from 2025 spring flooding. The reservation system shows closures through at least May 31, 2026, but no firm reopening date has been announced. The boat ramp remains open.

About

Nolin Lake State Park campground occupies 333 acres along the northern edge of Mammoth Cave National Park on the shores of Nolin Lake, a 5,795-acre reservoir created by the impoundment of the Nolin River. The campground offers a peaceful lakeside setting without the crowds, combining natural scenery with modern amenities. The campground includes 32 sites with water and electric hookups and 27 primitive tent sites. All sites feature picnic tables and fire rings. A central bathhouse provides restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities, and three sites are ADA accessible. A dump station serves RV campers. The campground typically operates from late March through October, with reservations available through the Kentucky State Parks system up to 12 months in advance. Recreational opportunities include swimming at the sand beach, fishing for bass, walleye, catfish, and crappie, and boating from the park's boat ramp. Hiking trails wind through the park, and picnic pavilions are available for group gatherings. The park's proximity to Mammoth Cave National Park makes it an ideal base for exploring both above-ground and underground attractions in the region.

Directions

From Louisville: Take I-65 south to Western Kentucky Parkway at Elizabethtown. Exit onto KY 259 South at Leitchfield (exit 107) and drive 17 miles to KY 728 East. Turn left on KY 728 East, drive 7 miles, then turn left on KY 1827 and follow to the park. From Nashville: Take I-65 north to exit 28 at Bowling Green. Turn north on US 31W for 12-15 miles, then left on KY 101. Follow KY 259 North where it merges, then turn right on KY 728 East and left on KY 1827 to the park.
