About

Maple Springs Group Campground offers a quieter alternative to the main Mammoth Cave Campground, situated on the park's north side across the Green River. The campground serves as an ideal base for exploring the park's extensive backcountry trail system, which spans over 70 miles and welcomes both hikers and horseback riders. Sites G001 through G004 feature dedicated horse tie-up areas and are designated for equestrian use. All seven group sites include electric and water hookups, a fire ring, and a picnic table. Vault toilets and seasonal potable water are available on-site. There is no dump station, sewer hookups, or showers. A small amphitheater and a communal fire pit are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The campground accommodates RVs up to 40 feet and trailers up to 26 feet, though these larger vehicles cannot use the Green River Ferry and must take the alternate route via Brownsville. Wildlife in the area includes deer, turkey, and coyotes. The remote setting provides a peaceful atmosphere away from the busier areas near the cave entrance. From here, campers can access Mammoth Cave tours at the visitor center or explore aboveground features like Cedar Sink.

Directions

From the south: Take Mammoth Cave Parkway toward the Visitor Center. Turn left onto Green River Ferry Road, cross the ferry, then turn left onto Maple Springs Loop Road. The campground is on the left in approximately 1/4 mile. RVs and trailers over 16 feet cannot use the ferry and must take the alternate route: From the Parkway, turn left on Highway 70 to Brownsville, right on Highway 259, right onto Highway 728 (becomes 1827), then right onto Highway 1352. Follow signs to Maple Springs.
