About

Washington Crossing Historic Park preserves one of the most dramatic moments of the American Revolution: George Washington's crossing of the Delaware River on Christmas night 1776. This 500-acre National Historic Landmark stretches along the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware River in Bucks County, offering visitors a blend of American history, natural beauty, and outdoor recreation. The park is divided into two main sections. The Lower Section contains the historic Taylorsville Village, McConkey Ferry Inn, the newly renovated visitor center with a 248-seat auditorium featuring a copy of Emanuel Leutze's famous painting, and a museum shop. The Upper Section, located 3.5 miles north, includes the Thompson-Neely House which served as a military hospital during Washington's encampment, soldiers' graves where an estimated 40-60 Continental Army soldiers are buried, and the 125-foot Bowman's Hill Tower offering panoramic views of the Delaware River Valley. Parts of the park are operated by the Friends of Washington Crossing organization. The park offers extensive day-use recreation including walking paths, fishing along the Delaware River, non-motorized boat launching, picnic areas, and three reservable picnic pavilions. Throughout the year, the park hosts special events including the famous Christmas Day Crossing Reenactment, General Washington's Birthday celebration, and Market and Muster Day in September. Environmental education and heritage programs are offered year-round. While the park mentions organized group tenting may be available by arrangement with the park office, there are no traditional family camping facilities. The nearby French Creek State Park offers overnight camping for visitors to the Greater Philadelphia region.
