About

Crater Creek Campground is a primitive, first-come, first-served camping area situated adjacent to the Crater Creek Trailhead in the Methow Valley Ranger District of Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. At 4,700 feet elevation, the forested campground offers several tent sites with pleasant views overlooking the valley. The facility is particularly popular with equestrians, featuring hitch rails and a stock loading ramp, though it welcomes all types of outdoor enthusiasts. The campground provides immediate access to an extensive trail network, including Eagle Lakes Trail #431, Crater Creek Trail #416, and Martin Lakes Trail #429. These single-track trails are open to hikers, horseback riders, motorcycles, and mountain bikes, but ATVs are not permitted due to the narrow trail widths. The remote location and diverse trail options make this a favored destination for those seeking backcountry adventure. Facilities are basic, with vault toilets but no potable water, so visitors must bring their own water supply. The campground operates on a self-pay system at $10 per night, with payment accepted via cash, check, or mobile Scan & Pay. Interagency Senior and Access passes receive a 50% discount on the occupied site. Access requires navigating approximately 4.6 miles on Forest Service Road 4340-300 (Crater Creek Road), and road conditions can vary with weather.
