Walker Pass Campground

Open

Open year-round on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations accepted. Donation-based fees. Campers must bring their own water.

About

Walker Pass Campground sits at the junction of the Owens Peak and Cache Peak segments of the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail, making it a natural stop for thru-hikers and section hikers. Located at 5,000 feet elevation just off California Highway 178, the campground offers 11 walk-in sites designed for PCT hikers and tent campers, plus 2 car camping sites. The semi-arid landscape features scattered pinyon pines and Joshua trees with outstanding views of the dry, rugged foothills of the Southern Sierras. Equestrians are welcome, with hitching racks and corrals available for horses. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, though campers should be prepared to bring all water as no potable water is available on site. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with donation-based camping fees. Vault toilets with ADA-accessible facilities are provided. This is a primitive camping experience best suited for tent campers, hikers, and equestrians rather than RV travelers.
