About

Walker Pass Campground is a free BLM-managed campground located just off California State Highway 178 at the junction of the Owens Peak and Cache Peak segments of the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail. Situated at 5,000 feet elevation, the campground occupies a semi-arid landscape dotted with pinyon pines and a few Joshua trees, offering outstanding views of the dry, rugged foothills of the Southern Sierras. The campground provides 11 walk-in sites designed primarily for Pacific Crest Trail thru-hikers and tent campers, along with 2 sites suitable for car camping and small motorhomes. All sites are equipped with picnic tables and fire rings. Equestrian campers will find hitching racks and corrals available for horses. The campground features vault toilets but no potable water, so visitors must bring their own water supply. Located approximately 9 miles west of the CA-178 and CA-14 junction or 35 miles east of Lake Isabella, Walker Pass Campground serves as a popular resupply point for PCT hikers and offers a peaceful basecamp for exploring the Southern Sierra Nevada backcountry. The campground operates first-come, first-served with no advance reservations.
