About
Long Valley Campground is a remote, primitive campground managed by the Bureau of Land Management within the Chimney Peak Recreation Area. The campground is cherry-stemmed out of Domelands Wilderness and offers 13 campsites equipped with picnic tables and fire rings. Primitive pit toilets are available, but there is no potable water at the campground, so visitors must bring their own. The campground serves as a trailhead for the Volpe Trail, a 3-mile unmaintained route that provides access to the South Fork of the Kern River within Domelands Wilderness. The trail begins at the end of the campground road near site 13. The campground is located more than 20 miles from the nearest paved road and requires a high-clearance 4x4 vehicle to access via a 2-mile campground access road. This area provides excellent opportunities for backcountry camping, hiking, and wilderness exploration in the Southern Sierra Nevada. The remote location offers solitude and a true primitive camping experience for those seeking to escape developed areas.
