About

Walker Fork Campground sits along the scenic Taylor Highway in Alaska's remote interior, near the Fortymile Wild and Scenic River. The BLM-operated campground provides 24 sites, with 18 designed as pull-throughs that can accommodate larger RVs. The site has an interesting history, having served as the Lassen airstrip in the 1930s and 1940s, when year-round air service replaced winter-only sleds for delivering equipment and fuel to mining camps on Jack Wade Creek. Facilities include two vault toilet buildings, fire rings with grills, picnic tables, and a shared bear box for food storage in the rear section. There is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. A covered picnic area designated for day use can also accommodate overflow camping. Several sites feature ADA-accessible amenities including an elevated tent pad, wheelchair-accessible picnic tables, and accessible fire rings with grills at sitting height. Payment is handled via an iron ranger fee box at the entrance or through the Recreation.gov Scan & Pay mobile app, which must be downloaded in advance due to lack of cell coverage. The campground operates first-come, first-served with no advance reservations.
