About
Oxbow Campsite is a remote, solitary camping spot nestled along Newsome Creek in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests near Elk City, Idaho. At 3,830 feet elevation, this free primitive site caters to anglers looking to fish the creek in complete solitude. The single campsite includes two camp pads and a toilet. This is a true backcountry experience with minimal amenities. There is no potable water, no picnic tables, and garbage services are not available, so visitors must pack out everything they bring in. The area east of the campsite is closed to motor vehicles year-round, though the existing road network provides excellent mountain biking opportunities. Access is via Newsome Creek Road from State Highway 14. The site is open year-round but may become inaccessible during winter months due to snow. No reservations are accepted; camping is first-come, first-served.
Directions
From State Highway 14, turn north on Newsome Creek Road No. 1858 and travel approximately 2.2 miles to the campsite.
