About

Orogrande Summit Campground sits at 7,260 feet elevation on Columbia Ridge in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests, offering an alpine camping experience surrounded by open timber. The high-elevation setting provides opportunities to observe wildlife characteristic of this mountain environment, and the campground serves double duty as the trailhead for Columbia Ridge Trail #205. Wildhorse Lake lies approximately two miles northwest by road, providing fishing opportunities. The campground features developed camp pads dispersed throughout the site, with vault toilets available. No potable water is provided, so campers must bring their own supply. There is no fee to camp here. Access is via Crooked River Road (Forest Road #233) from State Highway 14, approximately 18.6 miles south to the saddle on Columbia Ridge. Trailers are not recommended on this forest road due to road conditions. While technically open year-round, snow can make access impossible during winter and early spring months.

Directions

From State Highway 14, turn south on Crooked River Road (Forest Road #233) and travel approximately 18.6 miles to the campsite, located on a saddle on Columbia Ridge.
