About

Orogrande Summit is a developed campground situated at 7,260 feet elevation on a saddle on Columbia Ridge, offering a true alpine camping experience among open timber. The high-elevation setting provides opportunities to observe alpine wildlife and enjoy the scenic route to Buffalo Hump. Camp pads are dispersed throughout the area, providing a sense of privacy and immersion in the mountain environment. Wildhorse Lake is located approximately two miles by road northwest of the campground, offering additional recreation opportunities. The campground also serves as the trailhead for Columbia Ridge Trail #205, making it an ideal basecamp for backcountry exploration. Visitors should come prepared for primitive conditions with no drinking water or trash services. The access road, Crooked River Road #233, is not recommended for trailers due to its challenging conditions. At this elevation, weather can change rapidly and snow may linger well into summer or arrive early in fall. Campers should be self-sufficient and prepared for cold temperatures even during summer months. The remote location and lack of amenities make this campground perfect for those seeking a rustic, backcountry camping experience.

Directions

From State Highway 14, turn south on Crooked River Road #233 and travel approximately 18.6 miles to the campsite which is located on a saddle on Columbia Ridge. Trailers are not recommended on Forest Road #233.
