False Cape State Park Campground
Open year-round for primitive tent camping. Reservations required by phone at 1-800-933-PARK. Between November 1 and March 31, interior trails are closed and access through Back Bay NWR is restricted to beach only, making travel significantly more difficult.
About
False Cape State Park preserves 6 miles of pristine Atlantic coastline and offers a truly remote camping experience. The park cannot be accessed by motor vehicle; visitors must park at Little Island City Park and travel by foot, bicycle, or boat to enter. This isolation means campers should be experienced and self-sufficient, as emergency services are not readily available. The park has four primitive camping areas with assigned tent sites. Each campsite has a bag hook pole for hanging food away from wildlife. Pit toilets are available, and drinking water spigots are located at the Visitor Center and near some camping areas, though False Cape Landing campers must bring their own water containers. Open fires are prohibited throughout the park; campers may use propane stoves or sterno for cooking. All trash must be packed out. The Visitor Center operates a small camp store selling snacks, basic gear, first aid supplies, and clothing. Between November 1 and March 31, interior trails are closed and refuge access is restricted to the beach, where high tides and soft sand make travel extremely difficult. Reservations are required and must be made by phone.
