First Landing State Park's four yurts provide a distinctive glamping experience along the Chesapeake Bay shoreline in Virginia Beach. These circular structures combine the adventure of camping with some cabin-like comforts, positioned in the dunes with direct bay views. Each yurt is elevated and features a spacious wooden deck equipped with four Adirondack chairs, two picnic tables, a pedestal grill, and a fire ring with cooking grate. Inside, yurts are furnished with a queen-sized bed, twin trundle pullout, sofa, chair, coffee table, and dining table seating four. Maximum occupancy is four people with sleeping capacity for three. The yurts have no electricity, water, plumbing, heating, or air conditioning, so guests should come prepared for primitive conditions. Cooking and smoking are not allowed inside the yurts. Water and restroom facilities are available at the campground bathhouse, a short walk from the sites. The park itself is a National Natural Landmark with 20 miles of trails through cypress swamps, maritime forest, and lagoons, plus 1.5 miles of sandy Chesapeake Bay beach. This is the historic site where English colonists first landed in 1607 before settling Jamestown. The park offers fishing, crabbing, boating, hiking, and access to Virginia Beach attractions. Note that the park is adjacent to a military training center that operates year-round at any time, which may result in noise even after midnight.

Directions

From I-64, take Northampton Blvd. U.S. 13 North (Exit 282). Go through eight lights, then turn right at the Shore Drive/U.S. 60 exit. Turn right on Shore Drive and go four and a half miles to the park entrance. Turn left at the stoplight and check in at the contact station or park office.
