Kiptopeke State Park Shelters

Open — Shelters are available for rental from March through November. The picnic area restroom is closed from November 1 through April 1. A cancellation fee applies for cancellations made within 14 days of the reserved date.

About

Kiptopeke State Park offers two fully-equipped picnic shelters for day use rentals on Virginia's beautiful Eastern Shore. Each shelter can accommodate up to 80 guests and includes electricity, multiple picnic tables, grills, and nearby restroom facilities. The shelters are ADA-accessible with wheelchair openings and feature a mix of standard 7-foot tables and three 16-foot universally accessible tables. Additional seating is available outside each shelter for up to 40 more people, though these tables cannot be rented. Both shelters are conveniently located near playgrounds, drink machines, water hydrants, and additional grills. Shelter rentals run from 8 a.m. to dusk and provide an excellent base for exploring the park's 562 acres along the Chesapeake Bay. The park offers fishing from a lighted pier, swimming at unguarded beaches, boat launch facilities, and over 5 miles of hiking and biking trails. Kiptopeke is also renowned as one of the largest migratory bird stopover sites on the Atlantic Flyway. The park is located three miles north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel on Virginia's Eastern Shore, making it easily accessible from Norfolk and Virginia Beach (45 minutes away). Reservations are available through Virginia State Parks, with parking fees charged separately from shelter rental fees.

Directions

Located on Virginia's Eastern Shore, three miles north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel on Route 13. Turn west on Route 704 and the park entrance is within a half-mile.
