Caledon State Park Hunts Campground

Hunts Campground at Caledon State Park provides a true backcountry camping experience along the Potomac River in Virginia's Northern Neck. The six primitive tent sites are intentionally remote, requiring either a 3.5-mile hike or bike ride from the overnight parking area near the visitor center, or a paddle-in approach via kayak, canoe, or other non-motorized watercraft landing at Jones Pond. Each campsite is a framed, sand-filled pad equipped with a fire ring, lantern post, and picnic table. A portable toilet serves the campground, but there is no potable water, electricity, or showers. Campers must pack in all water and supplies and pack out all trash. The maximum capacity is six people per site. The park is known for its bald eagle habitat along the Potomac River and offers hiking trails through mature forest. Overnight guests must remain in the campground from dusk until 8 a.m. The campground operates year-round with required advance reservations.

Directions

From I-95, take exit 133 (Fredericksburg) and head east on Route 3. Continue approximately 20 miles to King George. Turn left onto Route 218 North (Caledon Road) and continue about 4 miles to the park entrance at 11617 Caledon Rd., King George, VA 22485. The campground requires a 3.5-mile hike/bike from overnight parking or paddle-in access via the Potomac River.
