Smallwood State Park Family Campground sits within 628 acres of scenic Charles County parkland along Mattawoman Creek, a tributary of the Potomac River. Named after General William Smallwood, the highest-ranked Marylander in the Revolutionary War, the park combines natural beauty with historical significance. The campground features 18 sites tucked into a mature hardwood forest, with 16 accommodating both RVs and tents while 2 are designated tent-only. Each campsite comes equipped with a camping pad, 50-amp electric hookup, potable water hookup, picnic table, lantern post, and fire ring with grill attachment. Sites are configured as 30-foot back-ins. The campground offers a modern bathhouse with hot showers, a dump station, and ADA-accessible facilities. Six mini cabins with heating, A/C, microwave, mini-fridge, and coffee maker are also available nearby. Beyond camping, visitors can explore the restored Smallwood Plantation Retreat House, launch boats from the marina with 50-slip capacity, fish Mattawoman Creek, or hike trails including the General's Walk Trail. Firewood is sold at the campground for $7 per bundle or 3 for $20. The park also offers youth group camping areas and picnic shelters for larger gatherings.

From US-301 in Charles County, take MD-225 west toward Mason Springs. Turn right onto Sweden Point Road and continue approximately 4 miles to the park entrance at 2750 Sweden Point Road, Marbury, MD 20658.
