About
Caledon State Park's picnic shelter offers a convenient outdoor gathering space within a 2,587-acre National Natural Landmark known for its old growth forest and summer bald eagle population. The shelter can be reserved for all-day use from 8 a.m. until park closing, accommodating up to 40 guests. This universally accessible facility is located approximately 75 feet from the parking area and comes equipped with picnic tables and a grill. A portable toilet is available about 75 feet from the shelter, and the park's visitor center with its bald eagle exhibits and gift shop is also nearby. Caledon State Park is situated along the Potomac River in King George County, 23 miles east of Fredericksburg. The park features ten hiking trails and four multi-use trails that wind through environmentally sensitive marshlands and picturesque wooded areas. The 2-mile Boyd's Hole Trail to the Potomac River is particularly popular. While the park also offers primitive paddle-in and hike-in camping along the riverfront, the picnic shelter provides a more accessible option for day-use visitors. The park is open from 8 a.m. to sunset daily, with limited cellular service and parking available only in designated areas.
