Overview

Caledon State Park is a 2,587-acre National Natural Landmark in King George County, Virginia, renowned for its old-growth climax forest and as a summer roosting site for American bald eagles. The park is open 8 a.m. to sunset daily, with the visitor center operating 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday through Sunday. The park offers six primitive waterfront campsites on the Potomac River at Jones Pond, accessible only by hiking/biking 3.5 miles from the parking area or by paddling in (no motorized boats). Campsites are tent-only with sand-filled pads, fire rings, and picnic tables—no potable water, electricity, or showers available, so you must pack in all water. Reservations are required for camping. The park features 10 hiking and 4 multi-use trails, with the 2-mile Boyd's Hole Trail to the Potomac being most popular. Parking is limited and requires a fee (cash recommended due to very limited cell service). Note: The park closes to the public for two days in November and the first Saturday of December for resource management projects—check park alerts for exact closure dates before visiting.
